This post is long overdue.
One of my faithful readers has expressed his wish for me to share my twitter experience and for a long time I have unconsciously ignored it but today I must address it.
Why twitter?
Why are people so caught up in sharing their lives constantly?
Will I ever get the symbols (@, #) correct and the other jargons?
What is a trending topic?
What is a twitter tag?
These were the questions that troubled me before joining the force called twitter. I hated it. Before joining I would load twitter pages (mainly celebrities) but it was only to see what they tweeted about.
I hated the concept of followers, following and how the amount of followers you have on your page impacted your reach. I avoided topics surrounding tweets and twitter because I didn’t want to be caught up in sharing my life with the world. I tend to be very private, unpredictable but I can also be engaging.
However, on August 18, 2009 I officially joined twitter and now I am a faithful tweeter. The tweets on twitter from the twitter users are twitfantastic and the experience can be fun if you follow the right people. At the beginning I started following celebrities and a few of my blogger friends. I searched for twitter users in my area and followed a few a well – although they weren’t many. I would suggest that a new user find topics they are passionate about and tweet about that eg. technology, blackberry etc. You are going to be surprised how many people will reply (@) to your tweets and may even follow you.
For my own safety I do not tweet on certain topics. I would never support any twitter user tweeting on their specific location or any detail on their plans or schedule. My tweets, if they fall along these lines are very vague. The world is so dangerous and unsafe that you can’t even trust anyone even your friends.
One should never be afraid of twitter. I am a testimony that it can be good. The moment you join the ‘force’ – twitter, the more tweets you want to put out there – adding to your page. Placing tweets that surround trending topics is also similar to blogging.
My twitter experience has been great, I enjoy every moment of it. I enjoy telling my followers ‘Good morning’ as I always do and follow up with my own ‘thought of the day.’ Pretty boring huh? It’s never a dull day on twitter. I mean for those who live in the United States of America and other first world countries can really live a twit-fantastic twitter experience because tonnes of companies and others use this medium to promote their craft.
Oh how could I forget the amazing friends I have met through twitter who follow my blog and who I share my tweets with. They make my experience on twitter so wonderful and hmm twit-fantastic.
Please do not let your fear keep you from twitter.
Start tweeting today, memories await! Literally.
I’m also a big fan of twitter…its nice to see what other people are thinking throughout the day. But it can be dangerous…there are stalkers and crazies out there, so be CAREFUL!
twitter is a waste of time
I tweet with care too 🙂 Not much about my life..but about other stuff.
Thanks for Sharing.
aaah yes, my beloved Twitter, awesome service that defines the term “social networking”. I love it!
I must say you show the real purpose of twitter. Hope I will be as good as you. 🙂
I just started tweeeting and I don’t have my symbols down yet. I have to do google searches to find out what some things mean, but I’m enjoying it.
I know some people who love to tweet. But I’m blogging so far and not even on facebook. Glad you’re tweeting happily :))
I hardly twitter but wrote a post on it some time ago – check it out 😉
Why not, I’m going to try it. Will I find you just like search on fb?
I haven’t got the facebook drug yet lol
Just like people find it hard to be on Twitter, I find it hard to join Facebook. I haven’t been sold on it, I guess. LoL
I haven’t been attracted to twitting or facebook. My sons are and they love it. I’m more of an RSS Feeder/Reader. Most of my friends are surprised that I don’t twit or don’t have a facebook/myspace page. Glad to hear of another Twitter, take care.
U should tweet. Add some diversity.
I joined Twitter Jan 26 of this year and at first I didn’t like it either. It took me a day [ WAYY to long for someone as tech savvy as me] to get the hang of it and really jumpstart with Twitter by phone and then through third party apps like UberTwitter. All in all Twitter is just another reflection of one self and or alter ego. I have come across some FOOLS on Twitter who in “real life” are not who they portray. Twitter is just another medium in my opinion that when choosing followers and who follows who you got to tune in and avoid the static – if you catch my drift. All in all I don’t regret my Twitter experience at all. I have brought more folks to my blog that way and I am sure it will help in promotion of my book that is to drop sometime next year. All in all – like other things in life – it’s what YOU make it. . .
@LadyNeuro
Man, you sound convincing… argh… I guess I’m surrendering very soon…
U need to tweet. It’s fun.
I just read this, and appreciate the irony…because I just wrote about NOT getting into Twitter! I still do a daily blog, and I love Facebook, but just can’t get into the Twitter thing. I think I’m too wordy. 😉
Beth don’t worry, you will be on it in a few months. Its just that you haven’t been sold on it yet.
I tweet, but I don’t put much out there…
I’m an infant on twitter myself, but here is my info if anyone wants:

You’re a hard sell. 🙂

I bet you would keep it.
I will take up the challenge. Will consult the spirits and get back to you.
